Medicine Wheel Values

Indigenous cultural presenter Christina Verhagen talked to students about interconnectedness through the medicine wheel and encouraged them to reflect on what is important to them in relationships with people, items, and the land. Students then created their own personalized medicine shields.
Land Tour
June 7, 2024
Students walked and explored the land, plants and trees along the Mission Park Greenway. Elder Frank explained the practical and medicinal uses of the plants, and shared which were native to the Okanagan, and which have been introduced since colonization.
Annual Spring BBQ

Central brought together staff, students, community members and supports, and families for our annual spring barbeque. Food, fun and community spirit was in great abundance!
Horseworks Leadership
April-May, 2024
Students participated in the 6 week Horseworks Equine-Assisted Learning program. Equine-Assisted Learning is a learner based educational experience with horses, an effective approach to human development that encourages both individual and team growth. Participants engage in objectively driven exercises and find themselves learning valuable life skills in a fun and exciting atmosphere, while working with horses. During the last 3 weeks, a small group of students that demonstrated a high level of commitment to the program were invited to participate in a leadership sessions.
Science in Action!

Under the direction of Mr. Owens and Ms. Cernak, Central students investigated two types of chemical reactions to improve their understanding of chemistry. Looking for evidence of chemical change, they observed changes in colour and formations of precipitates in both single-replacement and double-replacement reactions. Students practiced their analytical laboratory skills throughout the procedure and predicted the products created by the chemical reactions."
Learning the Metis Jig

Indigenous cultural presenter Sharon Hopf introduced the students and staff to the history of the Metis jig dance. Sharon lead the students and staff step by step to learn the basic changes of the Red River Jig. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversations around the red river jig and fiddle music.
